Oh the mystery surrounding Pixar films that are in the works...

It seems like another production is in the pipeline. Of course, we don't know the title or the premise. We don't know when it'll come out either. We don't even know who will be directing or writing it. Oddly enough, we know - of all things - who will be composing the score for this mysterious film. It's none other than Michael Giacchino!

Giacchino, like Randy Newman and Thomas Newman, is a Pixar mainstay when it comes to music. He composed the scores for The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up and Cars 2 along with providing the scores for other films, notably ones that involve J. J. Abrams. You can expect him to score Star Wars Episode VII, too!

In an interview with Switzerland-based blogger Owley Samter for his blog Owley, Giacchino confirmed that he's scoring a project that hasn't been mentioned or spoken about yet. (Translation courtesy of Owley himself in the comments section on the A113 Animation article!)

Yes... It looks like Pixar has got something new in the works. Something we've never heard of until now.

As you all may know, after Monsters University, Pixar has the following films in the pipeline...

Now we add this to the pipeline. But then there's another enigma... It was announced a while back that writer Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Glee) will pen a Pixar film, but it was unspecified. No mention of Inside Out or Lee Unkrich's "Dia De Los Muertos" film. To date, it's never been said what film she'll be writing the screenplay for. It could be Mark Andrews' film since every other film except "Dia De Los Muertos" has a screenwriter attached. As for Unkrich's film, I think they'd outright say that Noxon was writing the script.

You never know, this could be the very film she's writing... But Giacchino said that this film has never been talked about before. So...

That's a lot of films on Pixar's upcoming slate, which is rare for them. That being said, the earlier the secret is unveiled, the more fun it is to guess and speculate. Now, it's very possible that Giacchino made a mistake and thought that the film he will be scoring wasn't mentioned yet. After all, we heard bits and pieces on films like Andrews' film, Newton's film and the one Noxon is supposed to write. Bits of information like that could come and go since there are very little details.

He could also be referring to Inside Out, but Disney announced way back in 2011 that Pixar had that film in the works. It's very likely that he'll score that Pete Docter film since he scored his magnificent Up over four years ago. But I get the vibe that it's an all-new film he's scoring, something that we know absolutely nothing about...
