Oscar nominated shorts.

This year the Academy nominated several short animations, that they feel has something special. A little while ago I already posted Disney's 'Paperman' here (and a great little behind the scenes video). But now that we are getting closer to the actual ceremony this Sunday, all of the shorts are up on the net. Not all of them are available to post here yet, So I've posted either the videos or the links where you can check them out. There are five in total:

  • 'Fresh Guacamole' directed by PES.
  • 'Paperman' directed by John Karrs.
  • 'The Longest Daycare' (featuring 'Maggie Simpson') directed by David Silverman
  • 'Head over Heels' directed by Timothy Reckart and Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly.
  • 'Adam and Dog' directed by Minkyu Lee.

What's surprising is the amount of stop motion animations this year. It seems like this kind of animations are completely back in style. Maybe it has something to do with so many CG animations released these days imitating actual puppetry.

1. 'Fresh Guacamole' directed by PES.
'Fresh Guacamole' was created by Adam Pesapane, who is currently developing the animated feature of the 'Garbage Pail Kids' with Michael Vukadinovich. One of his earlier commercial projects was creating the title sequence for the Dutch program 'Het Klokhuis' ('Apple Core'). You can watch his nominated short below.

2. Paperman (John Karrs).
As I've said. I already put this short on the blog the day it went online, but you can watch it below. The Short features incredible new techniques for blending CG with traditionally created animation. For a short behind-the-scenes look check here.

3. 'The Longest Daycare'.
'The longest daycare' is a Simpsons short starring Maggie Simpsons, shown in front of 'Ice Age: Continental Drift' during it's theatrical run. Silverman worked on The Simpsons from the very beginning when the animated show was still part of the 'Tracy Ullman show'. He also directed the Simpsons animated feature released in 2007. Check it out here.

4. 'Head over Heels'.
Unfortunately there's no way of streaming Reckart and O'reilly's short right here at the moment, but you can check it out on the net for free by clicking this link: Watch 'Head over Heels' here.

5. 'Adam and Dog' (Minkyu Lee).
Minkyu Lee works as a visual development artist at Disney. The short was animated by Lee with the help of master animator Glen Keane (Beauty and the Beast). Also working on the short were Jennifer Hager, James Baxter, Mario Furmanczyk, Austin Madison and Matt Williames. Watch Minkyu Lee's 'Adam and dog' by clicking this link.
