Flag Football, Too

Somehow in the midst of life, the PCP’s first flag football season came and went with nary a mention of it on the little blog that is supposed to serve as a our “virtual memory book”.  So here goes…




After much begging and pleading to play tackle football, we ended up compromising with flag football.  I asked around about the two sports and different programs for months prior to signing up, and was pleased when most descriptions I got of the league we chose was “soft.”  Some parents said this derisively, but to me it sounded perfect for a seven year old :-)  When we found out that one of Honey’s high school friends was coaching the team, we knew it was meant to be.  And John loved it!





His sweet friend and baseball pal played on the same team.  I love these boys!  And sitting on the sidelines is always more fun with bestie M and Coach S.









All of our fall sports wrapped up last week so we’re down to tennis once a week.  Feels like vacation… almost!

One of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions is a little thing we call “Turkey Talk”.  We pass around a bowl of questions throughout the meal.  When the bowl comes to you, you pick your question, read it aloud and answer it.  The premise behind the "game" is that sometimes the people you are closest to are the people you know the least about.  Each year we learn something new about each person at the table... and these are the people that we are closest to in the whole world!

Weekend in Review: Zoo + Homecoming

Sister and her Mister treated the whole family to a Sunday at Zoo Atlanta.  We really had a great time!!









As these pictures will attest, these four were definitely at home in the zoo.









 We made the obligatory train ride around the zoo…

 
…and the baby finally wasn’t too scared to ride the carousel all by himself!!









And since Mother and Daddy-O were in town, we also went out for a Japanese hibachi supper.  This little thing found the antics of her “brothers” terribly entertaining…





And last but not least, we cheered Tech on for a Homecoming win!!!





Now, I’ve mounds of laundry and loads of cleaning up to do between all these fun outings and the projects we tackled in our “spare” time!!

Best Animated Short - 1936

Hooray! My COMLEX 3 is over and I can finally relax and enjoy myself at Nightmare Nights Dallas this weekend! How did it go, you ask? Well how should I know? I'm writing this three weeks early so I won't have to waste much more time studying. Oh the joys of getting a nice long queue.

Anyways, now that we're in the 1930s it's kind of weird to go back and see just how different things were, especially in the game of baseball. In 1936 there were only 11 300-game winners. 30-win seasons and .400 seasons were uncommon but not impossible. The first Hall of Fame voting was held as the BBWAA elected Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth (just one year removed from his last game), the late Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson. And a 17-year-old high school kid named Bob Feller is able to make it to the big leagues and strike out his age, even if it was against the hapless Philadelphia Athletics. Yes, things sure were different back in 1936. And yet the animated short films remain as timeless now as they were back in 1936. Some of them were, at least.

'Jiminy Cricket' Model Sheets, Disney 1939.

Here are eight model sheets featuring Jiminy Cricket, created in 1939 for Disney's animated feature 'Pinocchio', which was released on February 7, 1940. The movie was based on the famous Italian children's novel written by Carlo Collodi and published in 1883, which also features a cricket. However, Disney gave him a starring role as the conscience of Pinocchio and elaborated on the character, which was animated by Ward Kimball.

His name, by te way can be heard in Disney's earlier animated feature 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', and is a polite euphemism for the expression 'Jesus Christ!'

As you can see from the model sheets and the dates mentioned, Jiminy went through quite some changes along the way. If you look closely you can see a lot of refinement was done on the character between February and June 1939, thus the later drawings labeled 'Revised Model'. Don't forget, click to enlarge!
