'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' Model Sheets.

Here are some more classic model sheets, this time from Disney's first full length animated feature film,  'Snow White and the Seven dwarfs'. While production began in 1934, these sheets were created in 1936/'37. The first show the main characters, the Dwarfs and Snow White while the remaining are various designs for all the forest animals. Designer on the film was concept artist Albert Hurter, who had to give approval for all characters and backgrounds, although the designs for the animals below show they were okayed by Harry Bailey.

The design for the dwarf's eyes says 'Return to Dave', which I'm guessing was David Hand, supervising director on 'Snow White' (along with William Cottrell, Wilfred Jackson, Ben Sharpsteen, Larry Morey and Perce Pearce, who all directed individual scenes). Ollie Johnston, although never officially credited, worked as an assistant animator on this film. As always, click to enlarge.

By the way, before we go to some of the animals, the two supplementary charts, which showed the relative sizes of all seven Dwarfs (top of post), mentions that the characters were traced from the regular model sheets. Below I've posted the original of that chart, showings all characters were actually part of one drawing:

'Jiminy Cricket' Model Sheets, Disney 1939.

Here are eight model sheets featuring Jiminy Cricket, created in 1939 for Disney's animated feature 'Pinocchio', which was released on February 7, 1940. The movie was based on the famous Italian children's novel written by Carlo Collodi and published in 1883, which also features a cricket. However, Disney gave him a starring role as the conscience of Pinocchio and elaborated on the character, which was animated by Ward Kimball.

His name, by te way can be heard in Disney's earlier animated feature 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', and is a polite euphemism for the expression 'Jesus Christ!'

As you can see from the model sheets and the dates mentioned, Jiminy went through quite some changes along the way. If you look closely you can see a lot of refinement was done on the character between February and June 1939, thus the later drawings labeled 'Revised Model'. Don't forget, click to enlarge!

Bambi Model sheets (Disney, 1938-1940).
