Happy Birthday Mother

Today I’m wishing my dear, kind, talented and beautiful Mother the happiest of birthdays!!

November 2013 658 copy
I try every single day to be the kind of lady that she is, and totally cross my fingers that I am as lovely, happy and healthy as her in thirty years.  Can’t wait to celebrate later this month!!!
xoxo

PS. I’m totally doing a little jig over here in celebration of the impending arrival of my long awaited, brand new sofa.  Yee-haw!!!!!  (And y’all thought I was dancing because the kids are finally back in school.)

PPS. Today is the last day to order Disney autograph books and make the January shipment date of 1/13.  Orders placed after today will ship in February.

Looking Ahead

2014 is bound to be great.  John will receive his first communion.  Whit will start Kindergarten.  I will celebrate my 20th high school reunion.  Honey is taking golf back up.  And we’ve got some fantastic family trips planned.  We’re healthy and hope to get healthier, and we’re happy and plan to stay that way.

While I’m not one to fiddle with making resolutions, I am a seasoned and quite prolific list maker (some might call those two one and the same.) Honey and I usually start every year with little list of things we’d like to do over the course of the next twelve months.  Here’s what’s on tap for 2014…

The Family
1. Have two date nights every week.  That’s right ladies, we said every week.  We hope to go out once a month, but twice a week we’re unplugging and going to have good old fashioned card playing, star gazing, fire sittin’ quality time together after the littles have drifted off to never never land.

2. Make time for our oldest friends.  We have been so blessed to make new friends at every turn over the years since college.  But, in that time, we’ve accidently let some of our closest and oldest friendships slip through the cracks.  We live farther away from each other, we all have a houseful of littles, etc. etc. etc.  We are going to be more deliberate and more purposeful about making time for the guys and gals that have been there for the last twenty, and in some cases thirty, years.

3. Get serious again about expectations and allowances around here.

4. Stick to our budget.  This year we were purposeful and realistic and 2014 is going to be the year we nail it :-)

5. Have more manicures and fresh flowers in my life.  I've already started on this one with a pink glitter DIY mani pedi and an arrangement I put together with $6 worth of stems from Trader Joes. Both have brought countless smiles to my face this week.

Around the House (in no particular order... some are weekend projects and some will take weeks)
0. Get the hole in the ceiling fixed before my new sofa arrives next week *squeal*
1. Tackle the laundry room – it’s a decent size and completely worthless in it’s current state.
2. Transition the toys to the basement and turn the play room into a family study.
3. Bomb the play set in the back yard (it’s quite hazardous in its current state) and build a walk from the yard to the golf course.
4. Hang pictures in the upstairs hallway.  Oh, and paint it…flat paint + two boys + 4 years = nasty.
5. Make the coat closet work harder.
6. Clean out and organize the storage room in the basement.
7. Clean out and SELL anything we’re not using in the attic.
8. Repaint the numbered stairs.  It’s just time.

I'd love to  know what y'all are planning this year!!

Holiday Dreams at the Ritz

I was so so so so so beyond excited to surprise Honey and the littles with a little holiday getaway for Christmas.  I drove downtown and, try as they might, nobody guessed correctly.  When we pulled off the exit, Honey said “Motel 6?” and it made me even more excited for what would unfold in the next few minutes.  The look on his face when we pulled in at the Ritz Carlton Atlanta was pretty priceless.  We checked in right around lunch time for their Holiday Dreams package.

When we got to the room I finally told them the loose agenda for the two days and let them choose what we did first.  Predictably, they wanted to sprint right over to Centennial Olympic Park for ice skating first!  We grabbed to go hot apple ciders and vanilla jelly beans from the lobby and headed out in the cold.  It was the littles first time ice skating (or any sort of skating come to think of it) and they absolutely adored it.  There were plenty of tumbles and spills, but they were fearless and just kept trying until they got it!  It was no small miracle that we left with all bones intact.

It was cold and raining after our session, so the littles were thrilled for their first cab ride.  Granted, it was all of two blocks, but they still thought it was awesome.

We warmed up back at the Ritz with a pitcher of hot chocolate and a couple of hours worth of card games and cartoons.

We cleaned up and walked the block over to Hard Rock Cafe for supper.  There were loads more tempting places cuisine wise, but Honey and I both remembered going to Hard Rock as kids and thinking it was pretty fab.  When we walked in to find them rocking out to YMCA, the littles were sold.

When we got back to the Ritz, the littles picked up caramel apples and cookies (the former of which Honey and I have since swiped and eaten).

We were all out by nine and luxuriously slept in until eight the next morning.  There’s just something about a nice quiet hotel room with blackout curtains (and the fact that there is no den to clean, dishes to do or laundry to fold).  I surprised the crew with breakfast in bed and nearly squealed with delight when they rolled in the table of food.  Another first for the littles and something I don’t think they will soon forget.  I mean, gourmet pancakes in bed with Sponge Bob on the tele doesn’t happen often.  (Or ever around these parts.)

After showering and dressing, we walked over to The World of Coke.  The baby has been begging to go ever since I took the PCP earlier this fall, and it was everything he dreamed and more.  I mean, what five year old doesn’t love an unlimited supply of sugary beverages, a friendly polar bear and TWO movies?!?!

After the World of Coke, we walked over to SkyView Atlanta.  It was really neat, and you can see so much of Atlanta – we spied the Tech Tower, Grant Field, Kennesaw Mountain and loads of other landmarks!!  I would love to do it again at night – this time of year would be especially pretty with all the holiday lights in Centennial Park.

We wrapped up our little getaway with a gigantic Mexican lunch, and then we all crashed at home for the rest of the afternoon.

I’d venture to say many memories were made this weekend.  It was such a sweet and relaxed (sounds crazy since we did so much) way to make the most of the time between Christmas and New Years.

Merry merry, y’all.

Christmas Brunch

Sister and her Mister treated us to the sweetest Christmas brunch at their club yesterday.  (Honey operating under his strict and self imposed no shave between Thanksgiving and Christmas thing... hence the hairy mountain man look.)

The littles were positively thrilled to rub elbows with some of their favorite holiday characters…

…and Cookie was just a little put out that he didn’t get to hold “she she” for any pictures.

Speaking of the little doll, she wasn’t feeling great due to a pesky little cold.  Bless her heart.

It was such a fun afternoon and a great Christmas treat!!  Just a nine days to go!!!
