'Jiminy Cricket' Model Sheets, Disney 1939.

Here are eight model sheets featuring Jiminy Cricket, created in 1939 for Disney's animated feature 'Pinocchio', which was released on February 7, 1940. The movie was based on the famous Italian children's novel written by Carlo Collodi and published in 1883, which also features a cricket. However, Disney gave him a starring role as the conscience of Pinocchio and elaborated on the character, which was animated by Ward Kimball.

His name, by te way can be heard in Disney's earlier animated feature 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', and is a polite euphemism for the expression 'Jesus Christ!'

As you can see from the model sheets and the dates mentioned, Jiminy went through quite some changes along the way. If you look closely you can see a lot of refinement was done on the character between February and June 1939, thus the later drawings labeled 'Revised Model'. Don't forget, click to enlarge!
