Fifty Shades of … Dan!

We were so incredibly blessed with the best group of neighbors ever imaginable in our old neck of the woods.  They are a tight knit group that have celebrated countless joys, and held each other through a few unimaginable losses.  And we love that they still invite us back!!  This particular evening, we celebrated our friend’s big five-oh with a SuRpRiSe “Fifty Shades of Dan” themed birthday bash.  His wife J thought of everything.  It was a splendid celebration, a jaw dropping surprise and a wonderful night with great friends celebrating the Danny we all know and love. 



Now, to truly appreciate the theme, there are some things you need to know about Danny.  He’s fun, he’s quirky, he’s loyal, he’s loving, he’s crazy, and he is just plain himself.  He marches to his own drum and he has many, many “shades” and a signature look to go with each.  There’s camping Dan, grill master Dan, working Dan, boating Dan, Bon Jovi Dan, pilot Dan, running Dan and many, many, many more Dans.  Guests were asked to come dressed as their favorite Dan and boy was it a hoot!  Honey and I were “running Dan” and “camping Dan”.  In addition to all these “shades” of Dan, Dan is rarely seen without his shades.  When he came into the room for the big surprise, we all had on our shades, in fact.  The theme was pure genius! 


The room was perfectly appointed and the band was ah-mazing.  I mean, I think I had whiplash the next morning from my rendition of Baby Got Back.
