Boo-ing

We’ve never ever in as many years as we’ve been married been boo'd … until this year!!  And boy is it fun to run to the door to see what kinds of treats await.  John had a few rough life lessons all in the course of 24 hours (intimidating baseball coach (not his), forgot his school folder, and being excluded by a "friend") so this really couldn’t have come at a better time.  Needless to say, the littles were over.the.moon!

October 2013 654

When Honey got home from work, the littles ran up to him screaming “Daddy!  Daddy!  We got booed!!!!”  He looked horrified and said “At Target?  What did y’all do?”  Yep, the man thought we walked in Target and people were yelling “boooooooo.”  *hahahahahaha*

Now, as if getting that generous and timely “boo” wasn’t enough, a few days later we got “BOO-ZED”!!!  I have never in my life heard of something so fun.  And check out that darling wine glass with my monogram.

I cannot thank the two families that surprised us with these fun treats enough.  (I know who you are… THANK YOU!)  And I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to my gal Tricia at HKL Designs as I also happen to have figured out that she is the mastermind behind BOTH the light up treat buckets AND the wine glass design.

Now, we also did some boo-ing ourselves.  Two of our favorite monsters received a mysterious package in the mail yesterday…

Halloween Truth or Dare

We’ve spent every.single.night for the last week playing a Halloween Truth or Dare that I made up!!  In an effort to make it *ever so slightly* educational, the player must roll 3 dice and total them up.  Even numbers get a truth and odd numbers get a dare.

October 2013 689 copy

It’s been worth a lot a laughs and giggles around the supper table, and John's class will be playing it at the Halloween Party later in the week!

October 2013 660

You can find the instant download in my etsy store!!  All ages can play and laughs are pretty much guaranteed.  (The glass is a fantastic example of what comes home when Honey goes on an errand to Target.)

Now, I know this is super last minute and I totally dawdled on this, but you can also now find the Disney Not So Scary Halloween supper printables in my etsy store as well.

We’re off on errand day - you know it's time to hit the grocery when you have to eat left over baked beans for breakfast.  And a huge thank you goes out to Terry for suggesting my missing wallpaper might be with my wrapping paper - that's exactly where it was!!!!

Ghost Hot Chocolate

This one is an oldie but a goodie.  Temperatures here in Georgia dipped down to freezing last week and our Halloween Witch surprised the littles with ghost hot chocolate for an after school treat.  After making the hot chocolate, I float a peep on top of a regular marshmallow to hold it up.  And in about two minutes, your little ghouls will be screaming with delight!  (I found the peeps at Target this year.)

October 2013 666 copy

On an unrelated note, I popped in the Lilly store with fellow LP lover M Saturday and we were delighted to find a spread of treats and cider.  Hello, lovely Lilly pumpkin!  I wanted to take you home with me.  You know, to offset Captain Underpants in my Halloween display.

photo 1 (11)
And since this post is already a bit schiz, I had to share my sweet Iron Patriot hanging with Big Joe.  He’s growing on me.  (The monkey, not the kid.  He stole my heart eight years ago.)

Oh lord, since I’m sharing, check out precious CeeCee in two of her weekend looks.  Cutest baby girl ever.

Now, I've somehow lost the roll of teal grass cloth I used on my living room bookcases and I'm desperate to find it.  I'll be saying non-stop novenas to St. Anthony today.  WHERE OH WHERE COULD I HAVE HIDDEN A ROLL OF WALLPAPER???????  I searched all weekend to no avail :-(

Oookay then… how’s that for a bunch of randomness to start your week!?!?

S’more Halloween Fun 2013 {Free Printable}

Sometimes there’s just no reason to reinvent the wheel.  For the past couple of years I’ve used some variation of the same S’more Halloween Fun theme and I’m back with the 2013 rendition.

October 2013 618 copy

We usually have parent teacher conferences right around Halloween and I hate to go empty handed.  I put together these s’more baskets in no time flat and just tied on the printable tag.

Inside we’ve got all the fixins for s’mores – graham crackers, chocolate bars, marshmallows and giant vanilla flavored pumpkin shaped marshmallows!  The buckets were $0.99 at Michael’s.

October 2013 620 copy

Last year we gave the teachers a very similar kit packaged in white boxes.

And the year before we made individual treats for their class parties and for the goblins at our neighborhood trick-or-treat pre-party..

You can find the free file here:

As for the conference itself, well, we were just so humbled and so very proud of sweet John.  We think he’s a great kid, but it sure does mean a lot to hear it from someone who doesn’t have to say it.  Mrs. B said he’s doing great academically, but even more importantly, he has a big personality, he’s fun and bright and kind and enjoys learning, and he is a leader among his peers.  Be still, my heart…

Boo Breakfast Fondue

I had all the best intentions to make the Back to School Breakfast Fondue recipe that was included in my General Mills Hey, Cereal Lovers box back in September.  Well, back to school turned to fall and fall turned to Halloween and our “Halloween Witch” finally pulled it off… but in the form of BOO! Breakfast Fondue!!

It was such a fun spin on the usual fondue suspects.  We had cinnamon roll bites, granola bar pieces, apples and oranges…

… along with Count Chocula and Franken Berry cereals for dipping.

October 2013 628
The littles found it to be GREAT fun.  I mean, what’s not to love about dipping and mixing all sorts of breakfast creations?!?

BOO! Breakfast Fondue
Prep time: 20 min
Total time: 30 min

Ingredients:
1 tube Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls with Cinnabon icing
2 packages (4 bars total) Nature Valley Oats n Honey Granola Bars
1 sliced green apple
2 sliced orange
1/2 cup each Count Chocula and Franken Berry cereals
Vanilla yogurt

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice each cinnamon roll round into 4 pieces.  Bake in preheated oven 10 minutes or just until golden brown.  Ice.

We are getting SO excited for Halloween around here!!  I'm planning a week's worth of fun and spooky meals for the littles now that baseball is nearly over for the season.

Care for a Bite? {Free Printable}

I was delighted to be the parent volunteer for “Breakfast and a Book” in the PCP’s class on Friday!!  It seems that there are fewer and fewer opportunities to be in their classroom each year that they get older so I’m soaking up every moment I get.  Since we’ve got all things Halloween on our minds this month, it was an obvious choice for both the breakfast and the books.

October 2013 610 copy

When John begged and pleaded for doughnuts (come on, y’all know this gal loves a doughnut, as if I’d say no!), I was beyond excited to finally pull off the whole vampire fang thing that’s been floating around Pinterest for the last couple of years.

October 2013 606 copy

I packaged them in cute party bags scored a while back on Pick Your Plum, and a “care for a bite?” label was the finishing touch.

October 2013 609 copy

You can download the tags here:

We’ve only ever had Mystery Reader in the past, so it was fun to be able to have John pick the books and help with the treat.  The Room on the Broom is a Halloween must-read, if you haven’t already, and The Night Before Halloween is a spoof on the Night Before Christmas!

October 2013 616 copy

I, of course, donned my witch tights for the occasion.  Best $5 ever spent on holiday attire, if I do say so myself.

Have a great one!

Bugs & Kisses Halloween Treat {Free Printable}

When the PCP’s teacher asked if I could help out with a little Halloween treat for the class, I immediately knew what I wanted to do.  I mean, how cute is this?!?!

October 2013 603 copy

I originally saw it as a Valentine’s idea and I still totally want to use that for the baby this year.  I used bags with a 4” opening (Michael’s) and they were a breeze to make!  I found packs of 24 clip on spiders at Target in the Halloween section for a few dollars.

October 2013 604 copy

Since I was doing twenty-some-odd treats for the kids, I added one spider and five kisses to each one and simply folded down the tops of the bags.  A single staple holds it all together!  (Of course double stick tape would look better, but I don’t find seven year olds to be too terribly critical.)

Bugs & kisses, y’all!  We're off to TWO baseball tournament games and the GT game this weekend.  GO TECH! THWG!

Spooktacular

I couldn't resist the pun, Pixar's first ever television special delivered on all fronts. Toy Story of Terror is not only a lot of fun, but it's another great adventure with the beloved toy gang.

*Spoilers Below*

Toy Story of Terror lands Woody and the gang in a roadside motel, as owner Bonnie is on a road trip with her mother. Due to a flat tire, they must stay overnight. A stormy night at that! Mr. Pricklepants picks apart the typical horror film as the toys embark on their adventure. Mr. Potato Head - the first to foolishly leave the suitcase - goes missing, and the search for him results in everyone getting stolen by something mysterious... Except Jessie. Her run-in with a Combat Carl who talks in the third person is pretty funny stuff, but what surprised me about this special was the character development on Jessie.

Of course, fans know that Jessie has a phobia of being packaged in boxes. In this film, she finally faces her fears (which are visually represented for the first time in the series' history, as we see the box closing in around her) and uses them to save Woody at the end. I'm glad that they took the time to actually do that in a special, which makes me respect Pixar in many ways: In a special of all things, they add to characters that are already well-written and well-defined.

But what's also great is that its twists work, I honestly didn't know which direction it was going until Jessie encounters an iguana of all things, something that I thought totally came in out of left field. I loved the whole plot with the hotel manager looking to make money off of stolen toys, and when someone won Woody for $2,000, I immediately thought of good ol' Al McWhiggin. I was a bit shocked that he didn't show up in this, I thought that would have been hilarious! A post-credits scene of him weeks later, realizing that his item won't ship - I would've liked that.

The faces they meet when escaping, from Combat Carl Jr. to the self-building Lego set to the Old Timer (a fun toy clock that acts like an old man) to the Transformers parody (the name escapes me right now), were all cool as well. I hope to see them in a future special or Toy Story Toon. Part of me actually wishes for another Halloween special next year, one that has things similar to Sid's mutated toys! One can dream, right?

The only downside is that Pixar Canada won't be the ones making future specials and shorts, given their unexpected shut down a week ago. I was hoping that they'd thrive, considering what their mission was. That all being said, Toy Story of Terror is an unexpectedly great and fun Halloween treat from Pixar, it's no ordinary special.

What did you think of it? Sound off below!

Beware, Haunted {Twilight}

In my mind, the fleeting moments at twilight when the sun finally dips below the horizon and night settles in are the most breathtaking and magical minutes of the day.  But during the month of October, breathtaking turns eerie as twilight casts her delicious magic on already spooky displays.  This is what our trick-or-treaters will see in a few short weeks…beware, haunted.
