Scheduling Changes

Disney has revised their upcoming slate, this includes some interesting entries: Another untitled Pixar film, Marvel's Ant-Man and an untitled Walt Disney Animation Studios film.

The currently-untitled Pixar film is scheduled for release on November 25, 2015. If that goes through, then it will be the first time two Pixar films are released in one year. This, and Pete Docter's untitled "Inside the Mind" project. It's possible that the untitled project may move, since Disney has done this before. They have announced two Pixar films coming out in one year, and one of them ends up moving. Remember when The Good Dinosaur was scheduled for release in November 2013 alongside the summer release of Monsters University? It could be Lee Unkrich's "Dia De Los Muertos" project, since the Day of the Dead starts on November 1st and ends on the 2nd. Or maybe not, since that said film has a page on Box Office Mojo. Also, why release a film about Day of the Dead many weeks after said day? I have a feeling this will be a new untitled production.

If so, what could it be? The hopeful fan in me says Newt, but I won't get my hopes too high. Maybe it'll be something new. Before you say Finding Nemo 2, I think that if it was, Disney would flat out say that it is going to be a Nemo sequel. I think it's going to be another original production.

Walt Disney Animation Studios' next film is scheduled for release on November 7, 2014. I had predicted that date a while ago, since DreamWorks' Happy Smekday! already took the November 26th slot. Disney and DreamWorks gravitate around November, so I saw this coming.

What will it be? I want to say Big Hero 6, but it could be that hand-drawn Ron & John film (which was said to come out in 2014 or 2015) or maybe something new. Another one to look out for. I have a gut feeling it's going to be Big Hero 6 though, since that was also said to have been scheduled for 2014 and we have heard nothing else about any other future productions from the studio.

Phineas and Ferb, which was going to be July release next year is now pushed back to 2014 with an undetermined date. Good move on their part, as it was crunched between competition like Despicable Me 2, DreamWorks' Turbo and The Smurfs 2. It seemed like this was going to happen, since we didn't hear much about the film in the last few months, aside from who was going to write the screenplay (Michael Arndt) and what format it would be in.

Another Disneynature film is scheduled to open on April 18, 2014: Bears. Not much to say about this, but the question is, what narrator will they get for this one? The film detailing the production of Mary Poppins, titled Saving Mr. Banks, will open on December 20, 2013. It stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, as many of you already know.

Finally, we now know when Ant-Man will hit theaters. Disney announced that the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment will open on November 6, 2015, following the much anticipated sequel to The Avengers. I'm a bit confused here, wasn't this supposed to lead up to the second Avengers? Or is it now going to take place after the sequel and start Phase 3? In other Marvel news, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World are going to be in 3D. Does this mean we can see them in IMAX 3D as well? I sure hope so, nothing better than seeing the MCU films in IMAX. Thor was great to experience and The Avengers was a whole lot of fun on the huge screen, though I could definitely do without the post-conversion 3D.

That's all the big Disney news for today. We'll probably find out more about the untitled projects a few months later, but in the mean time, it's going to be fun to speculate. What do you think?
