Brad Bird's next film won't be 1906, but 1952. He will be directing the film for Walt Disney Pictures. The project is based on a original script written by Damon Lindelof, who also wrote numerous episodes of Lost. He also co-produced Star Trek and co-wrote the screenplay for Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens and Ridley Scott's Prometheus. It seems like Brad Bird has now levitated towards J.J. Abrams and company, since Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was a Bad Robot production, Abrams' production company. I'm also guessing that Michael Giacchino will handle the score. Bad Robot might even be the production company behind the film. A Disney/Bad Robot film? Maybe.
It's surprising that Disney green lit this, as they have had trouble with big budget blockbusters outside of Pirates of the Carribean (mainly the marketing!), but that didn't stop them from approving of Paladin. Like Paladin, everything about the story is under wraps. I'm already looking forward to this for many reasons. Brad Bird is directing it, it's going to be a sci-fi film, and the man who wrote the script has a pretty good track record, minus Cowboys & Aliens.
What could it be about? Your thoughts? I think it could be a film that's very similar to the sci-fi films of the 1950s, hence the title. Bird's The Iron Giant had a 1950s setting and was a sci-fi film (the posters for the film made it look like one of those 50s sci-fi films, "It Came From Outer Space!") and The Incredibles had a 1950s/1960s futuristic tone. The bigger question is, will Bird return to 1906 or Ray Gunn after this? What do you think?
