Thanksgiving Feast

We attended the baby’s Thanksgiving Feast at school last night – in a delightful evening full of food, friends and fun!

I spent the last week siphoning all the chocolate candy out of the little’s Halloween loot in order to make these brownies I read about in Southern Living.  Essentially, you bake a batch of brownies, pull them out 5 minutes early, top them with chopped up candy bars, m&m’s, etc. and then put them back in for 5 minutes.  I honestly thought it sounded a little gross but knew the littles would think it was totally incredible, thought it a fantastic way to get rid of the candy and loved that we’d be sharing all that candy with a bunch of others.  As we’re walking out the door for the feast I remember the school is nut free.  How on earth did I forget that???  I frantically start grabbing wrappers out of the trash and sure enough… may contain nuts, definitely contains nuts, processed in a facility with nuts, and on and on and on.  UGH!  So instead we brought little cups of applesauce (that were a complete hit with the parents since it was the only remotely healthy dessert in the bunch) and Honey and I have been forced to eat the candy laden brownies (that are actually quite good) :-)

After supper, a fantastic storyteller kept the littles (and me too) completely enthralled.

And then we spent a great deal of time making sand art.  The baby has yet to put his down – he’s slept with it, perched it on the side of the bathtub, carted it around in his car seat cup holder… you get the picture.

We’ve had a little at this school for six years and it’s hard to believe this was our next to last Thanksgiving feast.  I’m gonna miss these days…
