Among popular shag hairstyles 2013, the long shag hairstyle with layers is another most recommended option. The extraordinary feature of this hairstyle appears on its deep layers that make the hair looks funkier and trendier. It appears on its best with straight hair so make sure your hair is straightened. And with the help of bangs or fringe, your new appearance will be much younger as fresher. You can also color the hair for more results but make sure the color fits your skin profile so the final result will not be disastrous one.

All in one, shag hairstyles are going to be the appropriate choices for uniquely transformative look which fits great for oval, long and also round facial shapes.

Savannah: Bowling + A Movie

The spring break fun kicked off today with a few lively games at the bowling alley!  The baby was good for plenty of laughs with his unique moves and constant antics, and the PCP spent most of the time fretting over the fact that his little brother, his mommy AND his Mimi were all beating him.  Bless his heart.

After bowling, there was time for a spin through Sonic for curb-side happy hour slushies.  While the littles sucked down their treats, Mother and I snacked on a box of divine macaroons picked up from Maison de Macaroons on our way into town.  They hand bake all of their macaroons right there in the shop each day.  The bourbon pecan and bananas foster were to.die.for.  We’re talking little bites of heaven.

We made it to the theater just in time to catch the start of The Croods.

When we got back to the island Daddy-O had a couple of our favorite Papa Murphy’s pizzas in the oven.  I sure wish we had one of those in Atlanta!

With that, I’ve got to run.  Honey wanted to have a “conference call” last night to discuss the state of the yard but I crashed with the PCP in bunk room and missed our appointment :-) I don't think I can put this off another night...

Savannah: Fort Pulaski + Tybee

We spent the better part of our day exploring Fort Pulaski – the site where the Union army’s rifled cannon made further such masonry fortifications obsolete and was a turning point in military history.

A little official history:  Though completed in 1847, Fort Pulaski was under the control of only two caretakers until 1860 when South Carolina seceded from the United States and set in motion the Civil War. It was at this time that Georgia governor Joseph E. Brown ordered Fort Pulaski to be taken by the state of Georgia. A steamship carrying 110 men from Savannah traveled downriver and the fort was seized by the state of Georgia. Following the secession of Georgia in February 1861, the state joined the Confederate States of America. Confederate troops then moved into the fort. By December 1861, Tybee Island was thought to be too isolated and unprepared for conflict and was abandoned by Confederate forces. This allowed Union troops to gain a foothold across the Savannah River from Fort Pulaski. Union forces under Quincy A. Gillmore began construction of batteries along the beaches of Tybee. On the morning of April 10, 1862 Union forces asked for the surrender of the Fort to prevent needless loss of life. Colonel Charles H. Olmstead, commander of the Confederate garrison, rejected the offer. Fort Pulaski was prepared for a possible infantry attack. However, Fort Pulaski never endured a direct land assault. With thirty-six guns, including the new James Rifled Cannon and Parrott rifles, Union troops began the long sustained bombardment of Fort Pulaski. The rifled projectiles could be accurately fired farther (4–5 miles) than the larger and heavier smoothbore cannonballs. Within thirty hours, the new rifled cannon had breached one of the fort's corner walls. Shells now passed through the fort dangerously close to the Fort's main powder magazine. Reluctantly, Colonel Olmstead surrendered the fort. Only two soldiers, one Confederate and one Union, were injured in the attack. Later, the fort was used as a war prison.

Although Mother and I have been to Fort Pulaski numerous times, it had admittedly been a long time and we found the fort just as fascinating as the littles!  We carefully crossed the moats so as to not fall in.  That sounds JUST like something the baby would do.

The littles participated in the Junior Ranger program – earning certificates and badges for their hard work.  It’s really a great way to engage littles ones in the history of the fort and it’s FREE!  You must request a booklet in the visitor center and complete the pages as you explore the park.  We completed the first activity right here on the second drawbridge: they were asked to look around and list or draw pictures of ways that the fort was protected from invasion (ie. the moat, drawbridge, iron studs in the door *love that paint color by the way*, narrow windows, tall walls, etc.).  From this moment they were hooked!

We imagined the horror of 600  men imprisoned in such a small space with so few beds and so little food.  They had to eat rats to stay alive!  (Learn more about the Immortal 600 here.)

We marveled at the architecture and views of Cockspur and Tybee Islands.

We participated in a fascinating musket demonstration and firing.  The littles loved learning about how the paper cartridges were made, used and stored during the war.   The PCP can't seem to understand that this guy was just an actor - he insists he is the last living soldier from the Civil War.  Oooookay.

After much begging and pleading, we finally headed up top.  There are NO rails and the thought of keeping my two maniacs in one piece was a little daunting.  However, the views were gorgeous and there were loads of cannons to explore.

When we had our feet safely on the ground again, we headed back to the visitor center to have the littles take the Junior Park Ranger Oath and receive their badges.  They were also treated to sets of the Fort Pulaski Trading Cards.  More than 500 different cards from 90 national parks in 31 states can be collected as part of the National Park Service trading card series.

Other things to know:
  • There are tons of trails, a lighthouse and a picnic area to explore. You could easily spend a day!
  • Nearly everything is outdoors.  Fall and Spring would be the best times to go.  Bring bug spray, snacks and drinks.
  • Admission is $5 for people over 16 years and free for kids 15 and under.  Mother purchased the Senior Interagency pass for $10 that admits her and three adults to a number of national parks for the rest of her life!  A great deal!!

When we finished up it was well past lunch so we headed down to Spanky’s beachside for some fingers and spuds before lounging the rest of the day away on the beach.  The water was freezing but that didn’t seem to deter the PCP – or the hundreds of others acting like it was bathtub water.

Daddy-O made cheeseburger and BLT tacos a la Taqueria del Sol and they were deeeeelish!  I can’t help but feel a little bad for Honey back home eating Taco Bell and Arby’s all week.  (Don’t let me fool you – he love it!)

Short Shag Hairstyles 2013

Short Shag Hairstyles 2013
Short Shag Hairstyles 2013

To still be appearing fabulous even in 50s is every woman’s dream and short shag hairstyles 2013 are ones of the solutions. The coolest about this hairstyle is it provides edgy, funky and fresh effect for anyone wearing it. Its deep layers or shags make the hair looks accentuated while making the hair looks thinner as well. It also works great for almost any facial shapes from round to oval and long faces.

Chin Length Shaggy Bob

Shaggy Bob

What’s on your mind when you hear the idea of combining bob and shag hairstyle? I know this may sound not too familiar but the result will be fabulous indeed. This is maybe one of the most wanted shag hairstyles 2013. This hairstyle greatly features heavy bangs and razor cut layers. The layers itself are cut to the end of the hair. With the deep layers, the hair will look more volumized than before so it’s recommended for thin hair. It commonly works for straight hair but loose wavy hair still has the same chance though it may need some extra treatments and styling. Let’s say, use flat iron to get sleek finish after blow drying the hair using round comb.

Super Short Shag Hairstyles

Super Short

To go more dramatic, there is this cool super short shag hairstyle that you can try. This hairstyle is indeed the long version of short pixie. So, it certainly looks so cool for oval faces. Another great thing about this hairstyle is its nice appearance when combined with short side bangs. Make sure the hair stays straight to keep the perfect look of the hairstyle. You can do this yourself by using the flat iron. You can also color your hair with the best color fits your skin profile so that the final result will be more fabulous.

With the various choices of shag hairstyles, you won’t find it difficult to appear differently sophisticated within only minutes.

Savannah: Island Miniature Golf & Playground Fun

We kicked off the first official day of spring break over eighteen holes of FUN at Island Mini Golf & Games!!

I must remark that this operation is very clean, affordable and well managed.  And mini golf is just the beginning of how to while away an afternoon here – there are bumper cars, a bounce house, a little arcade and batting cages to boot.  As hard as it is to believe, I was the big mini-golf winner!  I’m not sure that I’ve ever “won” a sporting event in my life so allow me this two seconds of resting on my laurels.

Afterwards, we swung through Sonic for vanilla Cokes and milkshakes before heading to the playground near my parent’s house.  John dazzled us with his sky-high swinging skills, Mimi showed us the ropes on the zip line-ish equipment and the baby practically had us all barfing on the merry go round (more commonly known as the wheel of death around these parts.)

We wrapped up the day playing in the yard.

That is until Ampa brought out his five foot long snake skin that he found, ohhhhh, approximately two feet from where I was standing earlier in the day.  John was duly impressed – stroking and examining the thing inch by inch.  I, on the other hand, couldn’t help but think about the creature that left it’s skin behind.  UGH.

photo 5 (9)

After baths and a lovely home cooked meal (aren’t those the just the best when you don’t have to cook OR clean??!!?), the littles went to sleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow.  I’d venture to say spring break is off to a pretty good start!

We’re Finally Doing It

Almost exactly three months ago I mentioned that we were due for an exterior paint job – and that time has finally come!  I spent the last few weeks mulling over color choices for the shutters and doors…

 March 2013 664  March 2013 666

March 2013 667

… and would you believe I settled on the almost exactly same colors I originally shared?!?!  The only change was that I decided to go just a shade darker on the door color.

housepaintcolors2With that, the boys and I are just about ready to walk out the door to kick off spring break in Savannah. With any luck the place will be sporting her new do on our return!
